■ポイント■ この課題文の場合、「if」は「〜ならば」ではなく「〜かどうか」という意味です。
例： He doesn't know if it is good. → 彼にはそれがいいかどうかわからない。
［課題文の訳］ 私が子供たちの夕食のためにオート麦のビスケットを叩いて準備していたとき、牧師はジェイコブ・メリルと静かに言葉を交わし、彼の具合があまりにも悪くなって、はっきりと考えがまとまらなくなる前に言いたかったり、やっておきたかったりるすることが何かあるかと穏やかな口調で尋ねた。
