■ポイント■　「the faintest」は最上級ですが、絶対最上級という用法です。「最も」という意味ではなく、「非常に」「きわめて」という意味です。

例：　Have you ever been to this most beautiful country?　→　あなたは、この非常に美しい国に行ったことがありますか。

［課題文の訳］　彼の視覚と嗅覚は驚くほど鋭くなった。さらに聴覚も実に鋭敏になったので、眠っているときにも非常にかすかな物音に気づき、それが平穏か災厄のどちらの前兆かを知ることができた。
