人間とのつながりのない
■ポイント■ 「The reason＋be動詞＋that〜」で「その理由は〜だからだ」という意味になります。「that」の代わりに「because」が用いられることもあります。
例：The reason was that she had a cold. → その理由は彼女が風邪を引いたからだ。
［課題文の訳］ ある友人が以前、長期の船旅で海に出ると、いつも非常に悲しい気分になると、私に打ち明けた。なぜかというと、大海原に身を置くと、そこには人間とのつながりがないので、歩むべき道を指し示してくれる「力」と不死に対する常日頃の信仰が消えてしまうからだという。
