■ポイント■ この課題文の「so that」は「結果のso that」なので「そのため」「そこで」といった意味になります。
例： He was very excited, so that he couldn't get to sleep. →彼は非常に興奮していたので、寝られなかった。
［課題文の訳］ その女性は笑った。そして彼がすまなそうな態度で説明したところによると、彼は以前、消化不良にひどく苦しめられていた。そのため、長年、生きているのが苦痛だったが、やがて彼は、一日に一回、仕事を終えた後で、たくさん食べるなら、体調を絶好調に保てることを知った。
