■ポイント■　この課題文は仮定法過去完了になっています。「if」を用いる普通の仮定法過去完了なら、「if a storm of thunder and rain had not broken over the country」になりますが、「if」が省略された形なので、「had not」が先に置かれています。

［課題文の訳］　移動したくないという思いが募っていた私の心が、その土地を襲った雷雨の嵐のせいで変わらなかったら、私は不満をいだきながらも、真紅の目をしたハシボソガラスを見せてくれたあの場所の自然環境で、見たことのない素晴らしい何かに出会えるのではないかと毎日、毎時間、期待しながら、オッター川の近くに依然として留まっていたかもしれない。
